Why we built a mixer instead of another shaker bottle

Every protein powder on the market ships with the same implied accessory: a plastic bottle with a wire ball in it. We used them for years. We never liked them.

The problems with a shaker ball

Shaking is loud, which matters at 6am in a quiet house. The ball rattles around and gets lost. It traps residue in its coils, so it needs its own cleaning routine. And it still leaves powder welded to the bottom corners of the bottle.

For a thick protein shake that's tolerable. For something meant to taste like a café drink, it isn't. Texture is most of the experience.

What a vortex does differently

A spinning vortex pulls powder down into the liquid continuously, instead of throwing it back and forth against the walls. Everything passes through the same moving centre, so you get an even mix without agitating air into it the way shaking does.

It's also quieter, and it takes one hand and one button.

What we cared about in the design

• One button. Nothing to assemble, nothing to screw together in the dark.
• Rechargeable. No disposable batteries, no cable to carry.
• A clear chamber. Being able to see it mix is genuinely useful, and honestly it's nice to watch.
• Counter-worthy. If it looks good enough to leave out, you'll actually use it.

It isn't only for us

The mixer works with any powdered drink, not just FUELATTE. That was deliberate. We'd rather make something you keep using than something locked to one product.
